My 8th grade daughter was been writing stories

Here is the beginning of one of her stories......She is so excited about adding some new words she doesn't  usually use.

(Typed by Taylor)

The sun blazed through the open window and the light woke me up instantly.  I stretched my arms out, let out a huge yawn and rolled over onto my side.  I regretted it instantly, because Hunter was already awake and staring at me.  Hunter was gazing ahead at my morning face.  No make up, morning face with morning hair and morning breath to match.  "Beautiful." he murmured, his sarcastic tone offending me slightly.
I stood up immediately and then rushed over to my mirror. My platinum blonde hair all over the place and my eyes were red and crusty. I groaned, and then began brushing my hair quickly. I thought about insulting Hunter's looks... But I couldn't do that. I was a lot of things, but not a liar.  And saying that Hunter was amazingly ugly, was an amazingly big lie.
"Just keep your thoughts to yourself and we'll get through this sharing a room situation just fine." I said while adding some lip balm. Once my hair was neatly brushed and I'd applied some light eyeliner, I turned around to face Hunter. Only he wasn't there. The door was swung wide open and I heard footsteps emerging down the stairs. Of course it was Hunter, but how had he gotten out so quick without me noticing? I shrugged it off. Hunter was strange and mysterious in many more ways. Him walking out of a room was certainly not the worst.

                                                  *** Flashback ***

"Happy Birthday Hunter!" I emerged into Hunter's room with a huge grin on my face and a present in my hands. It was the 31st of December, or in other words, Hunter's 15th birthday.

Comments overheard during kindergarten choice time......

"Don't you think Mrs. Haywood is like the queen of our class?"

"Hey guys let's go rob a bank!"

"All this cheese is rocking my mouth!"

"Mrs. Haywood will be shocked that we worked together!"

"There is a library in this world?"

Passion and Purpose.....

Passion and Purpose go hand in hand.  When you are purposeful about something, you will normally find it is something you are tremendously passionate about. ~Steve Pavlina, Author

Short and Sweet

Notre Dame joins the ACC!!!!!

This quote really spoke to me.....

“If kids come to us from strong, healthy functioning families, it makes our job easier. If they do not come to us from strong, healthy, functioning families, it makes our job more important.” –Barbara Colorose

This quote really spoke to me.  I think I have the best job in the world!

They bring their child to me
and hope I'll come to know.
How much the offspring means to them,
their trust in me bestowed.

They bring their child to me
with love and hope and pride,
looking for a helping hand,
a teacher who will guide.

They bring their child to me,
and our partnership is clear:
To nurture and allow to bloom
a life we both hold dear.

They bring their child to me,
a step toward letting go
and trusting in our special plan
to help the child grow.

A dog and his boy

I went to wake my son up and this is what I saw.  No matter who it is or where they are, the dog always seems to dig her way in to find her own spot.  She will even take over the bed or spot and steal the pillow as if she is the master and we are the pet.

I will not miss it when it's gone!

My daughter has been talking about this movie called Pitch Perfect. Apparently this main character auditions to be a part of an a cappella group. However, to audition you had to have a song ready to sing. She didn't have a song ready, but she saw a plastic cup sitting on the judges table.  She started doing some weird tapping cup thing with a song. After about 5 hours of nonstop banging and tapping coming from my children's bedrooms last night, my husband started to join them.  This morning all I could hear coming from the kitchen was even MORE cup tapping and banging. They now have it down to science. I swear if I hear one more cup tap, I'm going to explode!!!

One of my kindergarten identical twins.........

One of my kindergarten identical twins said, "My name is Zach."  I said, "Are you sure, maybe you are Issac?"  "How do I really know you aren't your brother?"  He thought for a second and said, "I am the one with ear wax remember?"  I smiled and said, "Oh that is right, you are Zach!"

My 14 year old daughter just informed me.....

She wants to meet a male British fellow who speaks in a funny accent or an Irish fellow who also speaks in a funny accent.  I asked her how she could do this.  Her response was, "Only if I would magically have a billion dollars for two plane tickets to Ireland and the United Kingdom." She is also in love with the band One Direction. Her favorite is Zayn Malik.  When she showed me pictures of One Direction, she had me choose my favorite and I chose Niall Horan.

I want to brag a minute

No school today......  My 10 year old son (Mason) has done 4 loads of laundry, dishes, mopped two rooms, swept most of the house and stairs, organized and loaded up all the recycling, cleaned all the tables, shoveled the sidewalk, went shopping with me (mostly to get cleaning supplies), dusted, fixed a light, cleaned off the satellite and took out the trash.  I read this to Mason and he wanted me to add........All this without getting paid.  Thank you Mason!

Kindergarten comments...........

"My breath smells like sausage!"

I asked the kids to draw a picture of themselves and one of my boys handed me his picture and said, "I look a little bit like a jellyfish and a little bit humanish.  It's the best I could possibly do."

"See this book, I am a big fan of dinosaur books."

During writing workshop (at share time) one of my girls said, "This makes me want to cry from happiness because I love my cat book."

One of my girls said, "I went to a hotel over the weekend and they had a kiddy pool for cats!"  "I can't believe they have their own pool!"

Son's first school basketball game 4th grade

My son's first school basketball game is tomorrow.  I was trying to think of a good pep talk for him.  I found 3 people who can say it better than me:

Magic Johnson - Ask not what your teammates can do for you.  Ask what you can do for your teammates.

Larry Bird - Push yourself again and again.  Don't give an inch until the final buzzer sounds.

Micheal Jordan - Some people want it to happen, some people wish it would happen, others make it happen.

I will let you know tomorrow how the talk went!

In Loving Memory

My husband's grandma died last week.  Inside the memorial card was the following poem:

God hath not promised
Skies always blue,
Flower-strewn pathways
All our lives through;
God hath not promised
Sun without rain,
Joy without sorrow,
Peace without pain.

But God hath promised
Strength for the day,
Rest for the labor,
Light for the way.
Grace for the trials,
Help from above,
Unfailing sympathy
Undying love...
